Following my graduation from UCF – Rosen College, I decided to relocate to New York City. When asked why, I give three reasons:

  1. New York has the highest density of my friends compared to any other city
  2. This fish wants to swim in the biggest pond out there. I want to know if I can make it. Essentially, I am being a cliché. Since I am young and unattached, it became a now or never moment for me.
  3. Better dating pool.

With that said, I am currently on the job hunt. I would like to be a corporate in-house meeting/event planner within five years and am willing to try out most jobs that will help me attain that goal.

  • Google Wave gets discontinued.
  • Coming soon: Facebook vs. Google.

Google Wave, I will miss you. Google has officially stated that they have stopped working on Wave and will let the service end at the end of this year. I thought it was a fantastic tool but there was a learning process that people did not want to go through. Google is too smart for the masses. Continue reading »

So this group takes audio from lectures and presentations and adds it to interesting whiteboard drawings that help explain the ideas being expressed. This is a very interesting topic that is very well illustrated. It’s about 10 minutes long but you do not want to look away for any of that time.

World Food Programme

I was registered for a Political Institutions class back at UF. This was a term paper I wrote for the class. For those that know me and has heard of “The Paper,” this is it. It honestly shed a lot of light on the WFP for me and I learned to change from a position I had previously taken. This really helped to make me a more independent minded thinker and gave me the anti-protectionism stance I now take.

This paper was originally written in April, 2008.

World Food Programme: Dodging food aid regimes.
by George Kong

The World Food Programme (WFP) is labeled as The United Nations Frontline Agency in the Battle Against Global Hunger. As the first United Nations (UN) organization to adopt a mission statement, the food aid arm of the UN is out to eradicate global hunger and poverty. Adopted in 1994, the official mission statement of the WFP is to:

  • Use its food to meet emergency needs and support economic and social development.
  • Provide the logistical support necessary to get food to the right people at the right time and in the right place.
  • Put hunger at the center of the international agenda, promoting policies, strategies and operations that directly benefit the poor and hungry (WFP, 2008).

While little doubt can be cast upon the merit of fighting against starvation, valid concerns regarding the inherent altruism of food aid will be addressed along with an analysis of the efficiency of WFP programs towards achieving its chief goals. A focus will also be brought to the WFP’s funding (acquiring and use of), the group’s actions as a bureaucracy, and the effectiveness and lasting impact of missions. The goal will be for us to realize that, despite its successes and the millions they have helped, major changes should be implemented in order for the WFP to correctly handle the challenges the future holds.

When I was a polisci student at UF, I took a political theory class (POT3302). We were required to write a paper at the end of the semester detailing an ideology and I decided to challenge myself with the topic: Real Conservatives. I lost the bibliography, so there are quotes without full sources. If you decide to plagiarize my work for school and do the research for your bibliography, please pass on the information after you get a grade. Thanks.

George Kong | POT3302
Paper Number Two | Real Conservatives
April 2005

Russel Kirk put it best in his statement, “For there exists no Model Conservative, and conservatism is the negation of ideology: it is a state of mind, a type of character, a way of looking at the civil social order.” (p.254)  While that same statement can be applied to a great number of other ideologies (or states of mind, as Kirk puts it), “The conservative movements or body of opinion can accommodate a considerable diversity of views on a good many subjects, there being no Test Act or Thirty-Nine Articles of the conservative creed.” (RK, p.254)  In an attempt to describe a conservative, we will blend notes from the lectures with what Russel Kirk describes as the Ten Conservative Principles.  “Soul crafting” will be discussed, along with how it applies to the basic understanding of what a conservative is.  “In essence, the conservative person is simply one who finds the permanent things more pleasing than Chaos and Old Night.” (RK, p.254)

The following are the lyrics found laced throughout Villa Incognito by Tom Robbins. After reading the book I did a search for the lyrics but couldn’t find them. This post managed to pick up a lot of hits on my last blog so I’m posting it again. Enjoy!
Meet me in Cognito, baby.
In Cognito we’ll have nothing to hide.
Let’s go incognito, honey,
And let the world believe that we’ve died.

Meet me in Cognito, baby,
Of course we’ll have to color our hair.
The best thing about life in Cognito
Is that everybody’s nobody there.

Meet me in Cognito, darling,
Sure, some may think that it’s rash,
But you’ll look chic incognito
With your fake nose and Groucho mustache.

Meet me in Cognito, baby,
We’ll soon leave our pasts behind us.
The present is always a mystery,
As the future never fails to remind us.

Once we’re alone in Cognito,
We’ll remove all of our clothes very fast,
But though we be naked as jaybirds,
At no time will we take off our masks.

Cinderella went incognito,
And it’s said that she had a ball.
It’s always midnight in Cognito
By the black clock at the end of the hall.

We’re destined to be clandestine,
Incognito is our very last hope.
I’ll meet you where the sun don’t shine,
With a fake I.D. and some dope.

So do join me in Cognito,
You know that I’ll never tell.
We’ll sneak in the back door of Heaven
And stroll unnoticed through Hell.

Incognito
Incognito
There, every day’s a surprise.
Incognito
Incognito
Where truth tells all the best lies.

(Those who travel in Cognito
-Their very lives can depend on a hunch.
They eat intuition for breakfast
And sip cold paranoia at lunch.)

If you won’t meet me in Cognito,
Baby, I’m apt to go out of my head.
But if you really can’t handle incognito
Meet me in Absentia, instead.

The One Who Is Missing is missing,
He can’t run but He certainly can hide.
His ghost car is parked in Cognito,
Do you think He might give us a ride?

You play the game incognito,
You risk paying a very stiff price.
You’ll bet the ranch on Number 13,
Though that number is not on the dice.

No news is good news in Cognito,
Addresses are damn hard to find.
The queen of spades runs the mailroom
And all the postmen are legally blind.

Just because you’re naked
Doesn’t mean you’re sexy,
Just because you’re cynical
Doesn’t mean you’re cool.
You may tell the greatest lies
And wear a brilliant disguise
But you can’t escape the eyes
Of the one who sees right through you.

In the end what will prevail
Is your passion not your tale,
For love is the Holy Grail,
Even in Cognito.

So better listen to me, sister,
And pay close attention, mister:
It’s very good to play the game,
Amuse the gods, avoid the pain,
But don’t trust fortune, don’t trust fame,
Your real self doesn’t know your name
And in that we’re all the same:
We’re all incognito.
